How to buy LQ on Cardano

To buy LQ: put ADA in a self-custody Cardano wallet, open a Cardano exchange such as Minswap, search for the token by pasting its policy ID da8c30857834c6ae7203935b89278c532b3995245295456f993e1d24 rather than the ticker, swap, then check the policy ID of whatever lands in your wallet. LQ is a Cardano native token, so it lives in the same wallet as your ADA and moves in ordinary Cardano transactions. This page covers what LQ is, its published identifiers, where it trades, the steps, and the checks worth doing afterwards. It is information, not financial advice, and it carries no prices.

The token

What is LQ?

LQ is the token of Liqwid Finance, which its documentation describes as a decentralized liquidity protocol for lending and borrowing ADA, Cardano native tokens and stablecoins, built with Plutus smart contracts, with version 2 live on mainnet (Liqwid docs, checked September 11, 2026). The cardano.org app directory lists it as a non-custodial pooled lending protocol with liquid staking (cardano.org). Liqwid's registry entry calls the token by its full name, Liqwid DAO Token.

What the token does is governance. Liqwid's documentation says LQ staked in the governance module can be used to vote, earn staking rewards, and receive a percentage of the protocol's revenues, on a one-to-one voting ratio. Holding LQ in a wallet is not the same as staking it, and none of that is required to simply hold the token. This guide stops at buying and verifying; what you do afterwards is your call, and we publish no rate or yield figures because they change constantly.

Identity

What is LQ's policy ID, and where is it published?

On Cardano a token is identified by a 56-character policy ID plus an asset name, not by its ticker. Anyone can mint a token called LQ; only one has this policy ID. Liqwid publishes it on its own documentation page, and the same pair is registered in the Cardano Foundation token registry, which is what wallets and explorers read for the display name, ticker and decimals. The LQ policy ID is da8c30857834c6ae7203935b89278c532b3995245295456f993e1d24

The asset name is 4c51, which is hexadecimal for the two letters LQ. Put the policy ID and the asset name together and you get the asset fingerprint, the short asset1 string defined by CIP-14 that explorers use in their URLs. For LQ that is asset13epqecv5e2zqgzaxju0x4wqku0tka60wwpc52z. We recomputed it from the policy ID and asset name to confirm it matches what Liqwid and the explorers show.

Venues

Where does LQ trade on Cardano?

On Cardano exchanges, paired against ADA. CoinGecko's market list for LQ, checked September 11, 2026, shows Cardano decentralized exchanges only: WingRiders, Minswap, which carries more than one LQ pool, and SundaeSwap (CoinGecko). Minswap publishes an LQ token page and an LQ-ADA pool page of its own.

You can also route an order through an aggregator such as DexHunter, which describes itself as the leading Cardano aggregator and says it pulls liquidity from more than fifteen Cardano exchanges to route one order (DexHunter docs). That is worth doing when your order is large relative to a single pool.

We found no centralised exchange whose own listing pages confirm a live LQ market, so this page names none. Price-tracker pages on exchange sites are not proof that a pair is tradable there. If you see LQ advertised on a centralised exchange, check the exchange's own listing or announcement page before sending anything, and check the withdrawal side too: an exchange that lists a Cardano native token does not always let you withdraw it to your own wallet.

The steps

How do I buy LQ, step by step?

  1. Get a Cardano wallet and some ADA. Any self-custody Cardano wallet holds native tokens alongside ADA. If you are starting from nothing, the buy ADA and withdraw guide covers buying ADA and moving it off an exchange, and the wallet guide compares the main wallets. Send a small test amount first.
  2. Keep spare ADA. Leave more ADA in the wallet than you plan to swap, because every transaction costs a fraction of an ADA and a wallet holding tokens keeps a small ADA balance locked alongside them. A few spare ADA is comfortable.
  3. Open the exchange and connect. Type the address yourself or use a bookmark, then connect your wallet and approve the connection in the wallet pop-up. Connecting lets the site read your addresses; it cannot move funds on its own.
  4. Find LQ by policy ID. In the token search, paste da8c30857834c6ae7203935b89278c532b3995245295456f993e1d24 instead of typing LQ. This is the step that protects you from a copycat token with the same ticker.
  5. Enter the amount and read the quote. Check the price impact of your order on the pool and the minimum you will receive. A large price impact means the pool is thin for your order size, so split it or compare an aggregator quote. The number to compare between two sites is the minimum received, which is what actually lands in your wallet after every fee.
  6. Swap, sign, and wait for the batcher. Your wallet shows the ADA leaving and the order being created. On Cardano a swap is two transactions, so the order shows as pending until a batcher settles it against the pool. The Minswap and DexHunter guide covers that flow screen by screen.

Afterwards

How do I check what actually landed?

Open the new token in your wallet, view its details, and compare the policy ID character by character with the one on Liqwid's documentation page. Then look the fingerprint up on an explorer and read the transaction that delivered it. A matching name or logo proves nothing, since registry metadata can be requested for any token; the policy ID is the part that cannot be faked. The policy ID verification guide and the Cardanoscan reading guide cover both checks. The same routine applies to every Cardano native token, including $CATSKY, whose policy ID is 9b426921a21f54600711da0be1a12b026703a9bd8eb9848d08c9d921

Costs

What does it cost, and why is ADA stuck in my wallet?

Three costs apply, and none of them are charged by Liqwid. The Cardano network fee is calculated as a flat amount plus a per-byte amount, which is why a swap costs a little more than a plain transfer (docs.cardano.org, checked September 11, 2026). The exchange charges a swap fee that goes to the pool's liquidity providers; the rate varies by pool and is shown in the quote before you sign (docs.minswap.org). Minswap also used to charge a batcher fee of around 2 ADA per order and removed it for users in May 2025 (Minswap docs, checked September 11, 2026). An aggregator adds a service fee of its own, shown before you sign. The transaction fees guide breaks the numbers down.

The third cost is not a fee, it is ADA that travels with the tokens. Every output that holds native tokens must also hold a minimum amount of ADA, a little over one ADA in practice, depending on how many policy IDs and asset names sit in that output. It is impossible to create an output containing only custom tokens (docs.cardano.org, checked September 11, 2026). So after buying LQ, part of your ADA looks locked. It belongs to whoever holds the token: it stays yours while the token sits in your wallet, and it goes to the recipient if you send the token to someone else. A wallet emptied to zero ADA cannot move its tokens at all, which is the most common reason a first purchase appears to be stuck.

Straight answers

Frequently asked

What is the official LQ policy ID?

It is da8c30857834c6ae7203935b89278c532b3995245295456f993e1d24, with the asset name 4c51 (hex for "LQ"). Liqwid publishes it on its own LQ token details page, and the same pair is registered in the Cardano Foundation token registry as "Liqwid DAO Token", ticker LQ, 6 decimals, checked September 11, 2026.

Is LQ the same thing as ADA?

No. ADA is Cardano's own coin and pays every transaction fee. LQ is a native token issued by a project built on Cardano, so you hold it in the same wallet but you still need ADA in that wallet to move it.

Can more LQ be minted later?

Liqwid's documentation states the total supply is 21,000,000 and that no additional LQ can ever be minted, because the minting policy sits behind a timelock script. The registry entry for the token shows that script, checked September 11, 2026. You can confirm the current on-chain quantity yourself on an explorer.

Do I need to use the Liqwid app to buy LQ?

No. Buying LQ is an ordinary token swap on a Cardano exchange. The Liqwid app is where the lending protocol and the governance module live, which is a separate activity from holding the token.

How do I know I received the real LQ and not a copy?

Open the token in your wallet, view its details, and compare the policy ID and the fingerprint against the ones Liqwid publishes, character by character. A matching ticker proves nothing, because anyone can mint a token called LQ. The policy ID verification guide walks through it.
